You always believed some of them would get it.

The rest were pea-brains married to predictable progress.

You had to do it, bearing all those capital letters

on your back, that plague-weight of grief.

You broke the recitalist’s curfew under the stiff grip of applause,

and made it home to a place unmapped.

Wild Rose

Wind twists the petals.

They bend and blow

like rags on washing lines,

the nervous back and forth

frustrated – purity, beauty

rooted to soil,

bound to the roots of bedrock,

shown its rootedness

by the constant tease and toss

trying to release its glory,

fly headlong into the air.
